How to use GTalk on Motorola Xoom Tablet

Published on Feb 28, 2011

The Motorola Xoom features Google Talk preinstalled so you can chat via voice, video and IM wherever you are.

We show you how to use all three to get the most out of your Xoom.

Google Talk with voice

  1. Go to Apps > Talk
  2. Select the contact's name from your list of Google contacts, or select the '+' icon and tap on Invite a friend to chat. Enter your friend's name.
  3. Select the microphone icon if available next to a contact.
  4. Start your voice chat.
  5. If someone invites you to chat, a notification will pop up. Select Accept to start talking.

Google Talk with video

  1. Go to Apps > Talk
  2. Select the contact's name from your list of Google contacts, or select the '+' icon and tap on Invite a friend to chat. Enter your friend's name.
  3. If available, select the video camera icon to start chatting over video.
  4. You will see four icons down the right side of the chat screen. The top is end chat, next is mute, then enter text and at the bottom you'll see switch cameras. This last option allows you to turn the view around so your contact can see what's going on in front of you without you turning the Xoom round.
  5. If someone invites you to chat, a notification will pop up. Select Accept to start talking.

Google Talk with IM

  1. The Google Talk app also lets you have a more conventional IM conversation.
  2. Go to Apps > Talk
  3. Select the contact's name from your list of Google contacts, or select the '+' icon and tap on Invite a friend to chat. Enter your friend's name.
  4. Now, just tap the text box, start typing and tap return to send your message.
