Software to double smartphone battery life

Published on Jul 6, 2011

All handset manufactures either global players or local companies are in the race to develop smarter devices for consumers. Due to their smart functions, these handsets require more powerful battery to perform accordingly. However one of the major drawback is that most of the smartphones don't have that kind of battery power.

But it seems there is a solution for this problemn. Justin Manweiler, a Duke University researcher, who is a computer science graduate student has invented a software that he has named SleepWell. This software improves your smartphone’s battery back up, according to the Scientific American’s report.

Mobile gadgets consume loads of battery power in searching for the  Wi-Fi signal, and then even to get connected while working through them. SleepWell Software makes the gizmo move into power saving mode during the idle time it is awaiting while searching for connection.

This is basically useful when users flock to coffee shops enticed by free Wi-Fi networks. According to Justin Manweiler, if smart gadgets take access Wi-Fi access points turn by turn, data would definitely move faster and these devices would consume lesser energy than they actually consume today.

The main aim behind developing Sleepwell was to increase up the battery life of Wi-Fi enabled devices. SleepWell can be loaded on any gadget that offers a WiFi network infrastructure, comprising of WiFi routers as well as access points. It is designed in such a way so it works on all the platforms whether it is Software OS X, Google Android, Windows or some other platform, it supports all of them.

SleepWell software is completely different from the "sleep" mode, which has already been available in most of the devices. The new software SleepWell iprovides short 'sleep' periods multiple times per second to the devices, hence saving battery power of your smartphone.
