Micromax Ezpad Q7 review, ratings and pricing in India

Published on Oct 8, 2010

Micromax has produced some successful models under its Qseries portfolio. The devices in the Micromax Q family range from Q1 to Q75, which is the most recent device to be launched in India. Micromax Q55 Bling IIFA Edition, Micromax Q5 and Micromax Ezpad Q2 are some other popular devices within this category that were launched earlier.

Micromax has been a pioneer in developing cheap, user friendly and innovative handsets to give a tough competition to the global giants such as Nokia, Samsung, RIM, LG, Sony Ericsson and HTC in India.

Rightly so, the recent market research reports suggest that it is already placed at the third position, after Nokia and Samsung, as far as the popularity and sales volumes of the devices are concerned.

What makes Micromax branded handsets so popular in this part of the world? Well, it's the company's insight into the demography of this country, market research and sheer innovation that speak volumes for the success of this desi brand in India. And one need not to forget the company's creative ad campaigns that so far seems to have struck the right chords with the younger generation.

The company has been winner on three fronts: Pricing, innovation and technology. Most of the Micromax mobiles are priced competitively to suit the budget of college-goers. The devices come with lots of new innovation right from mobile phone with gaming console to phone with inbuilt remote control. And the feature-rich handsets are equally complemented with the high-end technology to help the gadget freaks to stay connected with their part of the world.

The device gained much attention with its TV advert that was aired with the punch line: 'Really Sorry'. Again we are really sorry for launching Micromax Q7 with wi-fi and amazing qualities that makes your own world - teased the new Q7 ad video released by Micromax. This TV commercial displayed users' addiction to the device causing a mall of mess all around. You can check out the video below:

Micromax Ezpad Q7 is a dual SIM device that features QWERTY keypad with trackball. When you first see this device, it will somewhat seem like a replica of Nokia Eseries or BlackBerry devices, although a cheaper one. Obviously, you are not going to get a high-end Eseries or BlackBerry device for sub-5K price point.

The device is offered in black and silver colours. The high point of this handset is QWERTY and Wi-Fi features. The specs of the Q7 phone include 262K colour QVGA screen display, a 2 megapixel camera, a 3.5mm Jack and Stereo FM Radio. The device offers Multi Format Music Player that supports MP3, AMR, MIDI, WAV files.

The other key features of this device include AVI/3GP/MP4 video player, 78MB of internal memory and expandable memory via MIcroSD card slot up to 4GB. The JAVA enabled phone allows users to store 1000 phonebook memory and 1000 sms memory with this device.

The Micromax Q7 offers loads of social networking tools as it comes preloaded with Opera Mini (Browser) and Nimbuzz Chat client. Users of this handset can avail FaceBook ready app and preloaded games as well.

The latest EZPAD series phone comes integrated with Li-ion 800mAh battery that offers talk time up to 4.5 hours and standby time up to 6 days. The device supports Email, SMS, MMS and EMS for messaging and comes with EGPRS/WAP/MMS, Bluetooth (A2DP) and WiFi connectivity.

Appearances matter. And as far as looks and feel of this device is concerned, it's not very appealing. It resembles a cheap Chinese model at the first instance. There's a camera on the top back panel of the device and a speaker near to it. It features a trackball, which is not much responsive.

Again, there's not much to say for the keypad of this handset. The keaypads are squarish in shape with spaces in between individual keys. Texting is not a comfortable experience on this device, but still it is better compared to other cheap phones available in the market within the same price bracket.

The Ezpad Q7 comes preloaded with Opera Mini, which again is not suited for ideal browsing experience. It works only for the predefined bookmarks. You will be left in limbo to how to insert new url into the address field. The camera is not that sharp. The 2 megapixel snapper is just there, because a basic device should carry one. The images taken from this camera is not of great resolution and lack quality.

The device sports a standard 3.5mm jack which is certainly a big bonus for music lovers. It supports mp3, amr, midi, wav formats. The sound quality of this device is kinda ok on the earphones. However, it offers poor sound quality when played in the background.

The device has a decent stereo FM which offers bass enhancer and equalizer sound effects. But, you need to be a music maestro to decipher between the different sound modes it provides. It is hard to guess if the sound quality really changes at all if you switch it from classical to rock mode.

The video quality of this device is again not up to the mark. But, you cannot ask for more for a device at this price point. The videos played in .3gp and .mp4 format had poor screen quality. We hope the upcoming Micromax models may improve a lot on these factors.

When you purchase this handset, the Micromax Q7 device comes with transceiver, standard charger, standard battery, handsfree, data cable, user guide, service guide and warranty card. Available in Black/Silver colour options, Micromax Q7 mobile phone is available at a price tag of Rs. 5,000 in India.

In the nutshell, Micromax Ezpad Q7 is a basic device with somewhat average features. The plus point of this device is QWERTY keyboard, Wi-Fi and social networking tools. The device is not meant for web surfing as you will have a bad experience with its preloaded Opera mini browser. Video and sound quality is somewhat average. The camera quality is again not up to the mark. But, overall, its a nice budget device within its limited features and capabilities.
