Aircel subscribers now can find nearby places and routes, even if they do not have a GPS enabled handset. The company is going to to offer its 2G and 3G users, improved location based services and to get real time tracking, information services and navigation information over their handset.

The company has chosen Ericsson to offer the mobile positioning systems to its customers. Such services will be really helpful for its subscribers in searching for the fastest route to any place, keeping a track of children, their nearby locations and many more. It will also be helpful for enterprises for effective resource management.

"There is huge potential in offering this value-added service to our consumers. Most Indians spend on average 90 minutes per day on the roads; location-based services will definitely increase efficiency and enhance the quality of their life," commented, Mallikarjun Rao, chief technology officer, Aircel.

Ericsson's Mobile Positioning Systems will provide excellent advanced location based services to Aircel customers and would also support several positioning alternatives for GSM as well as WCDMA (3G).

The operator is already offering 'pocketfinder' service that helps users in searching places like restaurants, ATMs, hospitals, petrol pumps and many others. Although, with this new arrangement these services are expected to be enhanced and improved up to a great extent.

Aircel is known for its outstanding and innovative services that it comes up with on a timely basis, to get a hold over the market.
