Published on Jun 2, 2011

India's most preferred network, Bharti Airtel has launched mobile wallet services for its subscribers. This newly added service will allow Airtel users to make payments through their mobile phones.

This service is dubbed as Airtel Money, which offer its customers an efficient alternative to cash transactions. Now the Airtel users don't have to carry cash everywhere, as the company has already tied up with more than 2,200 merchants in Delhi NCR. Such merchants are listed as utility providers (NDPL, BSES Yamuna, BSES Rajdhani, Indraprastha Gas) and LIC.

Moreover, a good number of organized retailers are also partnering for this service that include Chalchitra, Hair n Shanti, Yo China, Easy Day, Costa Coffee, DT Cinemas, Fun Cinemas, some local chemists and grocery stores. These merchants will accept payments via Airtel Money. In addition to this, Airtel Money service users will also get exclusive discounts and lucrative offers at several merchant outlets available in the market.

During the launch, Mr. Sanjeev Kumar, chief executive officer, Delhi NCR, Mobile Services, Bharti Airtel said, "We are today excited to announce the launch of Airtel Money for our customers across Delhi NCR, who will now be able to make cashless payments through their mobile phones - anytime, anywhere".

To avail this service, users have to apply for the service by visiting nearest Airtel store. Then, their existing SIM card will be upgraded to the new 64K Airtel SIM card that supports Airtel Money. After that users have to Activate their Airtel Money account by selecting their MPIN.

Then the users have to load cash into their mobile wallet account just like the prepaid users get their cell phone account recharged. Recently Google has also announced wallet-free service, which is facing law suits filed by ebay and Paypal. Also, DoP has introduced mobile money transfer services today.

Hope this is an excellent step forward towards wallet free future.
