In a new and exciting development, Samsung has provided us with a new Galaxy handset - the Galaxy R. It is touted to be the affordable version of the Galaxy S II.  We take a look at this handset and see what it has to offer.

The Galaxy S II has been a trump card for Samsung. Ever since its launch in India in May this year, this handset has been creating waves in the high-end smartphone market.

In an attempt to cash on the popularity of the S II, Samsung recently announced the launch of its new Android handset - the Galaxy R. The Galaxy R is another name for what was earlier rumored to be the Galaxy Z.

Lets take a look at this handset.

The Galaxy R looks pretty much like its sibling - the Galaxy S II, but it does differ on some grounds. The Galaxy R has a slightly smaller display than the S II at 4.2". In the place of S II's AMOLED display, it has a crisp LED display.

Like all the Galaxy phones, this phone too is an Android smartphone. In fact, it runs on the latest version of Android - the Gingerbread v 2.3 OS.

This phone is also embedded with Samsung's Touch wiz UI.

But, the most interesting feature of the phone is Samsung Hubs. This new and exciting feature from Samsung provides the user with direct access to content such as music, videos, social media networks and games.

As for the processor that this phone would be running on, not much is yet known except that it would be a dual-core processor. But, according to speculations, it might run a 1 GHz Arm Cortex dual-core processor equipped with an Nvidia Geforce gaming processor.

The Galaxy R would come with an internal memory of 8 GB, which can be expanded up to 32 GB.

In addition to that, this device would feature a 5 MP camera equipped with LED flash with a capability of playing 720p videos @ 30 frames a second and a 1.3 MP front camera for video calling.

Samsung has announced that this handset would be launched in Europe first. After that, it would be launched globally including Asia and USA.

As yet, Samsung has given us no release date, but, going by the speculations, it seems to be headed for a September launch.

Looking at the handset, we expect it to be priced above 20 K.
