Amazon is reportedly set to ship 3 million tablets in the third quarter of 2011

A new report from Taiwan suggests that 3 million might turn out to be Amazon's lucky number. The company's new tablet has already generated a lot of buzz and is reported to have around 3 million units in the offering.
According to speculation, Quanta Computer Inc, the manufacturer for this tablet, has already received an order to set up an assembly line that can produce 80,000-100,000 units per month throughout Q3.
Also known as the iPad-killer, this tablet aims straight at the high-end tablet market which has been till now been dominated by Apple.
This tablet is set to compete mainly with Apple's iPad. It would be interesting to watch this battle of tablets as both companies are trying to provide the best music, books and apps in the world.
The Amazon tablet comes in two variants - the Coyote with a dual-core processor, tapping on the economy consumer and the Hollywood, taking on the best in the market with its quad-core processor. Both of these would be Android tablets. The Coyote would most likely be a Honeycomb OS tablet while the Hollywood is expected to be an Ice Cream Sandwich OS tablet.
The Coyote, Amazon's debut into the tablet market, will most probably be released this October. This tablet would have a 9" screen integrated with Amazon functionality. It would run on the NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor. Surprisingly, it does not come with any cameras.
This tablet is reportedly set for an October release. It is set to replace the highly successful Kindle eReader. But, Amazon's CEO Jeff Bezos has reassured us on this count - "We will always be very mindful that we will want a dedicated reading device."
Some critics have indicated that Amazon might have been a tad too ambitious while placing this order. Other manufacturers, such as Motorola expect to sell only half this amount the entire year.
We hope that this tablet lives up to the hype.
