RIM released its newest, thinnest and most powerful smartphone Blackberry Bold 9900 recently. Based on OS 7 its speed and efficiency is a communication addict’s dream come true. However with Bold 9900, RIM has decided to skip the dual camera, making video calls impossible on the otherwise super smart device.

Video calling is gradually becoming a desired feature in the mobile phones, RIM's decision may put off some Blackberry enthusiastic, but we have to admit its rather impressive specs promise to make up for the loss.

With a 1.2 GHz processor, a Qwerty keypad and a touch screen, RIM has made communication for business and pleasure a breeze on Bold 9900. The Bold 9900 comes with a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, 4x digital zoom and LED flash. HD videos can be shot at 720p and pictures can be geo-tagged. The internal memory of 8 GB can be extended to 32GB with a microSD card.

The high resolution touch screen, although supporting images of 480 x 640 pixels and 256 colours, is slightly small at 2.8’’. The phone uses RIM’s new Liquid Graphics responsive touch interface technology. This technology combines a dedicated graphics processor and a high resolution display. It provides images of 287 dpi and makes panning and zooming seamless. The browser includes a new Just In Time JavaScript compiler that loads web pages faster. Even the Qwerty keypad has an optical trackpad.

The Blackberry Bold 9900 supports NFC or Near Field Communications, a new technology that enables various capabilities including the ability to pair accessories or read SmartPoster tags by tapping the phone in the right direction. It allows convenient and smooth data sharing. The phone also has advanced sensors that enable new augmented reality applications. Wikitude integrates seamlessly with Blackberry Messenger 6. A digital compass or magnetometer works well with its touch sensitive controls.

Blackberry Balance separates personal and corporate content on the phone, keeping the latter secure while allowing users to access personal emails and social networking sites. The phone is loaded with a full version of Docs To Go, making it easy to work with Word, Excel and PowerPoint anywhere, anytime. Also, voice enabled searches on the phone save time and energy.

The phone has a 768MB RAM and a 1230mAh capacity battery. Although the battery could have been more powerful and a dual camera would increase its functionality manifold, Blackberry Bold 9900 is still a force to reckon with.
