Yahoo India! launches Movieplex, a dedicated Bollywood channel for movie buffs

Good news for all the movie buffs in India. Yahoo! has launched its dedicated free Bollywood channel for movie lovers in India. Dubbed as Yahoo Movieplex, the new premium service which allows viewers to enjoy full-length movies on the internet, has opened its curtains with popular hits like Rock On, Rann and Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji among others. While the Movieplex shows are restricted to eight movies at present, it promises to add “thousands more”.

Bollywood Life quotes Managing Director Arun Tadanki, Yahoo! India as saying, “Movieplex is an example of how Yahoo connects people to what matters to them the most and Indian movie lovers now have the best full-length movies available to them at their convenience." Tadanki further added, "with the increasing demand for online video, both consumers and content providers are looking for a trusted destination where quality content can be consumed in a piracy-free environment at their leisure." 

Yahoo Movieplex, follows Google's free movie service Box Office on You Tube. The Box Office premiered few months ago with Yash Raj Film's Band Baaja Baaraat and continues to showcase blockbusters hits of present and yesteryear's. The Box Office collection allows viewers to enjoy latest films on Shemaroo, Yash Raj YouTube channel and more without shelling a single penny. According to the Yash Raj’s General Manager Digital and New Media this proposition not only offers tremendous exposure, reach and great viewing experience for the viewers apart from enabling the "monetisation in an unobtrusive manner". This initiative also attempts to curb piracy by bringing in big releases to the online viewers.

We have already heard about the popular online giant Netflix making its way to the indian markets and with google and yahoo strengthening its a foothold in the market, it seems like the online movie streaming will be a big bet in the coming days. Are the internet providers listening?
