Lakshmi Access Communications Systems is best known for the 13 tablets they have already released in the India. According to AndroidOS.in, the company is gearing up to launch its Magnum Mirchi, giving stiff competition to the established players in the smartphone market as well.
Going by everything the 5’’ Magnum Mirchi promises, the smartphone does indeed seem quite smart. It is powered by Android 2.3/Gingerbread and includes 512MB of RAM and 512MB of internal memory.
The touch screen display of course is large at 5’’ and has a resolution of 800x480. The device reminds one of the Dell Streak. It comes with a single core 1 GHz Cortex A8 processor and is equipped with 2 cameras, a 5MP primary camera with video capabilities and a VGA secondary camera. The front facing camera will make video calls possible, something that all smart phone users now desire.
Other features of the Magnum Mirchi include HSPA connectivity and mini HDMI and USB 2.0 HS ports. It comes with a GPS, accelerometer, eCompass, light sensor, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, FM radio and 3.5 mm headset jack.
What is disappointing for a top of the line Android phone is the low RAM and internal memory on LACS’s latest offering. Though details of slots for a microSD card and microUSB are hazy, further information may be revealed soon.
Since LACS is experienced with Android devices, the phone might just be able to deliver all that it promises. If the phone is received willingly at the price of INR 20K and does well, foreign and established players in the ever expanding smartphone market may well meet their match. The wait isn’t long; the phone hits the market next month. We can’t wait to watch the competition heat up!
