Nokia releasing Symbian Belle today

Published on Aug 23, 2011

Nokia is running a teaser on its Facebook fan page with the caption ”It's almost time to try something new” with a timer ticking away below. The countdown is set to end today (Wednesday, August 24, 2011) and Nokia fans are expecting the manufacturer to release the update Belle the same day. What’s more, there is a leaked video showcasing Belle available on YouTube.

Even though Nokia is slowly moving away from Symbian towards Windows Phone OS, it has promised to keep the platform up and running for users till 2016. Users are welcoming the update though critics are wondering why Belle follows Anna in just a short period of time. They are even speculating about the release of new smartphones from Nokia.

The Facebook teaser was originally named “Belle Teaser”, adding fuel to the fire of rumours. If indeed Belle is landing today, there’s a lot users can look forward to. The Belle features a new App Store, an Android-like drop-down notifications menu and a TaskSwitcher.

The App Store may have many new gaming and networking apps to offer, while the convenience of the notifications menu will bring Nokia smartphones closer to those powered by Android and iOS. The Task Switcher promises to make multi-tasking a breeze by allowing users to quickly switch between tasks. There will probably be improved widgets and more customised options on offer as well.

Pocket-Lint is expecting a range of high-end devices from Nokia, the release of which might just coincide with the Belle’s launch. Cindy (Nokia 600), Zeta (Nokia 700) and Helen (Nokia 701) are the smartphones Nokia is likely to offer.

The new devices will run on a single core 1 GHz processor. The Zeta will sport a 3.2’’ AMOLED display, a 5-mega pixel camera and NFC. Helen will most likely succeed Nokia C7 and offer an 8-mega pixel camera.

Whether it’s just Belle that’s being launched or a bundle of new smartphones on offer, today is certainly going to be an exciting day for Nokia loyalists. Let’s see what puts Nokia back into the smartphone game!
