Published on Aug 24, 2011
Over the past few years, Apple has been heavily investing in mapping technology and resources. In 2009 and 2010, Apple acquired two mapping companies, Placebase and Poly 9 and now the company is actively recruiting mapping specialists for Geo Team who can take their Map app to the next advanced stage.
There have been instances that strongly suggest that iOS5 has already built the underpinning for Apple’s own mapping solution. Last week, Placebase founder Jaron Waldman filed the first patent application informing that they have begun work at Apple. A day back, another application has been found detailing the use of augmented reality in assisting the user with directions and finding places of interest.
Augmented reality is the app that connects you to the real view of the outer world by using GPS, sound, video, and graphics. Though the concept of augmented reality apps is not new as a number of augmented apps are available on the App store. The new technology is expected to bring forth several new features such as focusing on and indicating the directions of the landmarks.
With the launch of this feature, locating places of your interest would become much easier and furthermore you can also mark the places that you wish to visit.
In a nutshell, iOS5 looks all set to provide with an enjoyable experience in your virtual tour of the globe. The development in the mapping technology seems to have triggered a revolution in the app world. Travelling has become a fun sport using the GPS, and with the advent of augmented reality app in your iPhone, it would be even more fun to travel and work on the Apple iPhone.
