LG launches the world’s first 3D smartphone – the Optimus 3D in India for Rs 37,000

LG has just launched the LG Optimus 3D smartphone in India an Android smartphone with a price tag of Rs. 37,000. The handset offers glasses-free 3D touchscreen and 3D video recording. Currently, LG is the only company in the world that is producing 3D phones.
According to the press release, Mr. Vishal Chopra, business group head, mobile communications, LGIEL, was quoted – “The LG Optimus 3D is super-smartphone which gives our consumer the pleasure of 3D without the special glasses. Its exceptional features combined with super computing capabilities will add a new dimension to the smartphone experience. The smart consumers will now have the power to create, view & share real-life 3D content and the power to explore the world of unlimited possibilities.”
The LG Optimus 3D is a phone that has been manufactured with a focus on providing a glasses-free 3D experience to the user. It is equipped with a 4.3-inch WVGA 3D display capable of playing 1080p 2D and up to 720p 3D videos. Additionally, LG has provided a 3D hot key via which a user can access five 3D UI’s including gallery, camera, games, apps and 3D guide.
It also features a 5-megapixel camera with a dual lens that can record videos in 3D. One can share 3D content with devices such as 3D TVs and monitors using its HDMI 1.4 connection. LG offers a dedicated 3D video interface with YouTube through which a user can upload and watch 3D videos online.
The device uses a Tri-dual technology, i.e., it is a dual-core, dual-channel and dual-memory smartphone. It runs on 1GHz ARM Cortex A9 processor and a 1500 mAh battery. Powered by Android 2.2 – Froyo OS that is upgradeable to Android 2.3, the device comes with numerous Android apps, like digital compass, multi-format Audio player, document viewer, accelerometer, gyro sensor, Bluetooth 2.1, and Flash 10.1.
The LG Optimus 3D is currently available only in Black color. At a price of Rs 37,000, it is quite expensive in comparison to other Android devices in the market.
How many users are ready to shell out this amount just to have an added 3D feature remains to be seen.
