One of the leading mobile phone manufacturing companies across the world, Samsung has revealed its new simplified naming strategy for handsets under the Galaxy line of products. With this strategy the company would categorize its smartphones into five different classes, and will be defined by a single letter.
Following the new strategy, Samsung has launched its 4 new mobile phones Galaxy M Pro, Galaxy Y, Galaxy W and Galaxy Y Pro. They all are Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) running devices.
The new naming system for Galaxy smartphones is based on:
• “M” (Magical / Mid-Tier) - If there is M mentioned at the end of the name, then it means the model has high-performance and is available at an economic price.
• “W” (Wonder / High Tier) - If there is W mentioned at the end of the model name, then it stands for high quality, strategic model, best suited for those seeking a balance between style and performance.
• “R” (Royal / Refined / Premium)- Similarly, as above if there is R then it stands for Premium category models that are good combinations of power, performance and productivity
• “S” (Super Smart / Flagship) - The same way Samsung has decided that it will use S for flagship devices like the Samsung Galaxy S
• “Y” (Young / Entry Level) - Smartphones with the Y in the name at the end are entry models for emerging markets as well as for the younger handset users, who are more price sensitive.
Some of the Galaxy Smatphones will also have class indication, which will be hinted with Pro, Plus and LTE.
• “Pro” hints that the mobile phone comprises a QWERTY keyboard for better messaging and email
• “Plus” indicates that this device is an upgraded model of an existing phone.
• “LTE” hints that the handset is meant to be utilized LTE (Long-Term Evolution) connectivity standards, a 4G standard to offer enhanced mobile network capacity and speed.
Samsung might showcase these new Galaxy smartphones at IFA in Berlin.
