The ongoing anti-corruption movement spearheaded by social activist Anna Hazare has snowballed into a massive movement. While the movement has rekindled the patriotic fervor among the people both young and old, the byproduct of this movement cannot be ignored either.
The movement has exploded into a massive commercial operation as well. From the sale of Anna caps, Anna pizzas, Anna haircuts, anti-corruption movement apps we have seen many innovative promotional products. The latest to join the "Anna inspired" bandwagon is the Angry Anna online game. Yes you heard that right.
Drawing from the Angry birds, one of the popular games of this year, the Angry Anna depicts similar game play with a Indian twist.
In this desi Avatar, the players use anti-corruption leaders to knock out corrupt politicians. To be successful the corruprt politicians have to be completely eleminated to move to the next level.
In an interview with afaqs, Mohd Shah Nawaz of Geek Mentors Studio said, "we have not included scores in the game. Our intention is to build a game to garner support for Anna Hazare, who is fighting against corrupt politicians in India, and let people vent their frustration against corrupt leaders."
Riding on word-of-mouth, the game quickly climbed up the Twitter ladder on Wednesday as one of the trending topics. Pushed down one step Angry Anna today sits pretty at the fifth position.
It is no surprise that the game is becoming popular. If you can't win a real victory over corruption, the virtual platform may provide a good avenue to vent your frustrations against corrupt leaders and politicians.
