Rumours doing the rounds on the internet claim that Sony Ericsson is getting ready to launch its new handset Nozomi as early as November. This Android smartphone runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) OS and has a lot to offer. It will apparently replace Xperia Arc as the company’s flagship smartphone.

According to xperiabloog.net, the spec-sheet doing rounds shows Nozomi bearing the model number SO-02D. Powered by a 1.4 GHz processor, Nozomi has a 1GB RAM. It has a 4.3’’ display with a resolution of 1280 x 720p. The phone will come with a micro-SIM, similar to the iPhone4. It will also be equipped with CMOS camera sensor.

What has left experts wondering is the processor of the phone. It looks like the processor is a 1.4 GHz single-core Snapdragon S2 chipset (MSM8655T) with Andreno 205 GPU. This is not powerful enough to warrant the device a flagship for Sony Ericsson, specially since the leaked Xperia Duo is rumored to be releasing soon with a dual core processor and a 4.5’’ gHD display.

Debates on the internet are fueling the growth of various theories about Sony Ericsson’s upcoming releases. Some are of the opinion that Xperia Duo will release first (and be the company’s flagship for the time being) and after a few months, the company will release Nozomi, even as late as next year. Others feel that since Android 2.3 eats up a battery quickly, Sony Ericsson is addressing the problem of short battery life with the single-core processor.

In fact, some even believe that Xperia Duo and Nozomi might be one and the same phone, the former with a dual-core processor and the latter with a single-core processor.

Nozomi was earlier thought to be releasing only in Japan but if rumors on the internet are to be believed, it is set for a global release. We just don’t know when, though. If Sony Ericsson delivers all that rumors are promising with Nozomi, the company might just be able to establish a foothold in the smartphone market. Let’s see what they finally have on offer. An official statement from Sony Ericsson is awaited.
