Samsung Galaxy W is the manufacturer’s newest offering to users looking for a mid-range smartphone. Scheduled to be displayed in the coming week in Berlin, it will hit the retail market soon after.
From the looks of it, the phone seems a good bet in it’s segment, specially since it is rumored to be priced at a little under Rs. 20,000. The device itself is sleek and slim and the white colour makes it look trendy. The phone will be available in the traditional classic black as well. It is powered by a 1.4 GHz single core processor and runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).
Galaxy W, codenamed GT – 18150, includes a 5-mega pixel camera with a LED flash. It also facilitates video calling with its additional 0.3-mega pixel VGA camera. The 3.7’’ WVGA TFT LCD touchscreen offers a resolution of 800 x 480. The phone provides support for HSDPA with speeds up to 14.4 MBps. It is powered by a 1500mAh battery and includes Bluetooth 3.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. Of course, Samsung’s game, social and music apps are preloaded on the device.
The phone is fairly light at 112 g and easy to hold and pocket with dimensions of 115.5 x 60 x 11.5 mm. It includes a 512 MB RAM and a built-in memory of 4096 MB. Memory can be expanded with a microSD card of up to 32 GB.
All in all, the Galaxy W is a practical phone in Samsung’s mid range of devices. More detailed (probably even new and improved) specs will be officially released at IFA in Berlin this week. Wait it out just a little bit longer and by next week, you will be in a position to make an informed choice about which is going to be your next “most desirable” device.
