The IFA has always been an exciting event for tablet and smartphone enthusiasts. Samsung has already stepped up the hype for its handset by releasing a teaser of the unpacked event with the byline – ‘something big is coming!’
ViewSonic is another brand doing rounds on the net in its run up to the IFA 2011. ViewSonic has announced that it would be debuting its tablets and smartphones at IFA 2011. Both these companies have adopted different strategies to market their products. While ViewSonic has already made a formal announcement through a press release, Samsung is keeping its cards close to its chest thereby giving rise to speculations and adding to the already brewing up suspense. The Samsung unpacked event, in fact, is one of the highlights of IFA 2011.
Samsung has gone a step ahead and provided its own unpacked event app. The app reveals that Samsung’s speculated line-up includes the Galaxy Tab 7.7, Galaxy Note and the Wave 3. The specifications of all these devices remain a mystery.
The Galaxy Tab 7.7 seems to be a rendition of the Samsung Galaxy Tab.
The Wave 3 on the other hand is Samsung’s new smartphone. The unique feature of this smartphone is that it will be the first smartphone running on Samsung’s very own Bada operating system. Samsung has made the decision of switching to its own OS close to the Google-Motorola takeover that is currently threatening the Android smartphone market.
On the other hand, ViewSonic has confirmed the launch of four devices – three tablets and a dual SIM Android phone. These are the ViewPad 7x, ViewPad 7e, ViewPad 10pro and V350 phone.
According to ViewSonic’s press release, the ViewPad 7x would be a 7-inch Android Honeycomb tablet. It would have a stylish form factor and lightweight body. It would run on a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor. Additionally, it would sport a 1024 x 600 pixels capacitive display and be integrated with a pre-installed GPS software along an 8 GB memory.
The ViewPad 7e would be an economy tablet with a 4:3 multi-touch display, pre-installed Amazon Kindle display alongwith Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and HDMI connectivity. It would be released in Europe in Q4 2011 at a price of 169 Euros (Rs. 11,000 Approx).
The ViewPad pro is ViewSonic’s 10-inch professional tablet equipped with Windows 7 professional OS and Android 2.3 – Gingerbread OS. It is only tablet with dual-operating system functionality and might seem like a futuristic tablet. The Wi-Fi version of this tablet would be released on September 5th in Europe. It is priced at 499 Euros (Rs. 30,000 Approx).
The V350 dual-SIM smartphone would be a dual SIM, Android 2.2 phone with features such as Wi-Fi/3G support, a 5-megapixel camera, 600 MHz processor, 3D UI and pre-installed Android market and Google apps. ViewSonic has not yet released any pricing details about the handset but the IFA would be its last preview before it hits the market.
ViewSonic has already started taking pre-orders for the ViewPad 7 and the ViewPad 10 on its Indian website.
According do a recent leak from Notebook Italia Toshiba, one of the world’s biggest IT companies also plans to launch a Honeycomb tablet named Toshiba Excite at the IFA 2011. Not much is known about this tablet except it would sport a 10.1-inch screen and run on a NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor.
