
Vodafone to launch Android-powered Smart in India next month

Vodafone will launch its Android-powered device, Vodafone Smart in India for Rs. 6-7 K in September

Vodafone is planning to launch its budget Android smartphone, christened, the Smart, in India next month as reported by Android OS.in.
Smart which will arrive within the price tag of Rs. 6-7 K comes with a 2.8-inch, 240 x 320 pixels TFT capacitive touchscreen and a 2-megapixel camera. This lightweight device comes armed with a 528 MHz ARM processor and an Adreno 200 GPU.
Based on the Android Froyo OS, the device is compatible with 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for browsing and surfing the net. It offers 130 MB internal storage that can be expanded to 32 GB. In addition to that it also comes with a multi-format audio player.
It offers a decent talktime of up to 250 hrs. on 2G and 380 hrs. on a 3G network. In addition to numerous Android apps, the handset comes pre-loaded with Vodafone Music, Vodafone find and go and a GPS navigator app.
Available in two colors – Black and White, the handset is likely to offered with a bundled tariff and 3G plan from Vodafone.
The Smart is Vodafone’s second Android device after Webbox. The Webbox was an Android 2.1 Qwerty device and launched at a price of Rs. 5,799 with bundled 12 GB data usage for 12 months.
The handset was offered for free under its 24-month bundled contract. We are hoping to see similar offer coming for Vodafone Smart as well.
Targets at average Indian consumer who looks for both affordability and functionality in their handset, Smart has the chance to shine with its smart pricing.
