Sources from Foxconn (OEM for the Amazon Hollywood tablet) and Quanta Computer (OEM for Amazon Coyote tablet) have indicated that Amazon will begin mass-producing its Coyote tablet in October this year and the Hollywood tablet in the first quarter of 2012.

The timeline for Amazon tablets is based upon a Digitimes report that was claimed to have been sourced from upstream component suppliers.

The 10.1-inch Hollywood tablet is set to ship with NVIDIA’s Kal-el quad-core processor, which is one of the latest and fastest processors till date. It would most probably come equipped with Google’s upcoming platform, the Android 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich OS.

The Coyote on the other hand would be a 7-inch tablet running on a dual-core NVIDIA processor. It would most likely be equipped with Android 3.2 – Honeycomb OS. Amazon is reportedly set to ship around 2 million tablets before the end of this year.

The Amazon tablet has been notoriously called the iPad killer. Amazon ‘s Coyote is considered to be the worthiest competitor of the Apple iPad as it has powerful infrastructure to roll out a tablet.

It already has its own successful eReader – the Kindle achieving high sales. Along with that, it already has its own distribution channels, retail outlets, the Amazon app store and a cloud drive.

The Amazon tablet is slated to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Tab, Motorola Xoom, iPad 2 and HP TouchPad.

The Amazon Coyote is expected to be priced at $ 250 (Rs. 9,000-Rs. 9,500) and is rumored for a U.S. release this October.

Details about its Indian release date and price have not been disclosed as yet.
