Published on Sep 7, 2011

Dell, one of the smart devices manufacturer is partnering with Baidu, to launch a new smartphone, powered by Baidu OS. Dubbed as Baidu Yi, the OS is not a newbie. Bearing close resemblance to the Android, the OS gives users a more improved and modified version of Android- quite like what Amazon has supposedly done for its Kindle Tablet.

According to PC World , while a Dell spokesperson has confirmed the news that Dell and Baidu are planning to launch a smartphone, both the companies have refused to provide more details in this regard.

Baidu is a leading search engine in the China, with an 80 per cent of Internet searches share, as per a report from report CNZZ.com, an analytical web research site. In the month of April, the company claimed that its search engine had been installed on 80 per cent of Chinese Android devices.

Shen Sui, Analyst with consultancy group, iResearch said "Currently in China, all the top Internet firms are trying to expand into the mobile Internet market and want to solidify their place and grow their market share."

On the other hand, Dell is acknowledged for its PC's, who introduced its first smartphone in 2009. This mobile phone was installed with a modified version of the Android operating system. The brand has gone on to launch several other mobile phones running Windows Phone 7 and Android in diverse markets.

After the Dell Streak, Dell's latest partnership with Baidu appears to be an interesting news. Lets see how their collaboration works and how does the handset perform in the market.
