Picture of Apple engineer’s lunch possibly clicked with iPhone 5

PocketNow has got its hands on a picture that was uploaded on the Flickr account of Anton D’Auria, an engineer with Apple. Titled “lunch at work” the picture is a high resolution image of a plate of sushi. The details of the snap have got experts thinking it might have been taken with the soon-to-be-released iPhone 5.

Details of the photo reveal that the original picture was taken with a resolution of 3264 x 2448p, approx. 8MP. The original snap was then cropped to a resolution of 2235 x 2291, approx. 5MP. Since the iPhone 4 has a 5MP camera, it seems unlikely that the original picture was taken with this device.

Also, “lunch at work” was taken with a 4.3mm f/2.4 lens. This also makes it difficult to believe that the iPhone 4 clicked the picture; the iPhone 4 has a 3.85 mm f/2.8 lens.

Though these facts point to the possibility of this being a test photo taken by an Apple engineer with the iPhone 5, critics warn that the picture could have been faked. After all, the EXIF data of a picture can be altered quite easily. In answer, others wonder why someone would take the pain to morph a photo taken by the iPhone 4.

Moreover, something that seems rather tough to fake and has rumour wheels churning is the fact that the picture was taken at the Apple headquarters. TechCrunch found the embedded GPS coordinates that revealed the exact location of where the snap was clicked.

If “lunch at work” was indeed taken by the iPhone 5, Apple loyalists have a lot to look forward to and critics have a lot to think about. Among other things, the snap has proved that the fifth generation iPhone has an awesome camera, with a clarity offered by point and shoot devices!
