One of the leading Indian mobile manufacturers, Micromax, is setting the net abuzz with the leak of its new handset, the A85. The handset has surfaced online at GSM Arena.
The A85 holds testament to the fact that Indian handset makers are making forays into every sector of the smartphone market. This rumored handset comes with high-end features such as a 1 GHz processor and 512 MB RAM.
We provide you a detailed overview of this handset.
The A85 follows the line-up of successful phones such as the A60 and A70. It comes equipped with a 3.8-inch capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels.
Along with that, the screen is rumored to have a ~246 ppi pixel density. A good pixel density ensures that your pictures do not get distorted when you transfer them to a larger device such as a PC.
The phone is set to feature a powerful 5 MP camera offering 2592 x 1944 pixels along with auto focus. Along with that, it would offer a secondary VGA camera.
The A85 would be built on an Android 2.2 - Froyo platform. Although Froyo is one of the most popular Android platforms in India, it is kind of old. We hope that Micromax offers a Gingerbread update along with this phone.
According to the leaked specs, the A85 is set to feature 3G connectivity although no word is out yet on its Wi-Fi capabilities. It also features a WAP 2.0 HTML browser.
But that’s not all. The most exciting feature of this handset is its rumored 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor along with 512 MB RAM.
The A85 comes with added features such as Micro USB v2.0, geo-tagging and aGPS. For its business consumers, Micromax offers features such as push email, SNS applications, organizer, document editor, calendar and Google talk along with numerous Android applications.
In addition to that, the phone comes with a proximity sensor with auto turn-off, accelerometer and touch-sensitive controls. It also has photocall through which a person can save call records along with photographs and click on the photographs to see contact details.
In addition to that, the phone features multiple audio/video format player compatible with MP3, WAV and AAC audios and MP4 and H.264 videos.
Currently, no information is available on the kind of battery that would power this phone.
The A85 is expected to be launched later this month with a price tag of 20K approx.
The A85 is surely a game-changer for Micromax as until now, it has only been known for its low-range handsets. This is the first time that Micromax has provided us with a mid-range handset. Lets hope it leads the way for other Indian handset manufacturers.
