A false tweet about Steve Jobs’ death sets internet on fire
Published on Sep 13, 2011
A hacked tweet account leading to a tweet about Steve Jobs’ death has set the net on fire. Jobs’ announcement of his retirement and the impending launch of iPhone 5 and iPad 3 have all eyes looking towards Apple.
CBS’ web news show ‘ What’s trending’ mistakenly passed along the news of Steve Jobs death. CBS was quick on its feet and fired its host Shira Lazar and eliminated the show altogether. But Phone Arena is said to have gotten its hands on the original tweet that says, “Reports say that Steve Jobs has passed away. Stay tuned for more updates.”
Steve Jobs has been a person who has battled rumors and speculations all his life. Whether it is his company Apple, its upcoming products or his own life, rumors have never spared Jobs and aren’t slowing down now.
This is not the first time that Jobs has been a victim of a premature death rumor. In 2008, Bloomberg mistakenly printed a 17-page obituary of Jobs. Jobs, very much alive, joked about the report and quoted Mark Twain, also a victim of a premature death rumor – “ The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.”
But this time, it is pretty serious. Jobs had been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer back in 2004. Ever since then, he has been a constant victim of health issues. In fact, he took a sabbatical in 2009 stating health issues.
The former Apple CEO was thought to have recovered when he surprised everyone in August this year stating that he could “ no longer meet (his) duties and expectations as Apple CEO" in a letter to Apple emloyees. In fact, TMZ printed a photo of him 2 days after retirement. The photo shows a frail and tired Jobs fuelling rumors about his health condition.
Steve Jobs’ health is a great cause of worry to Apple enthusiasts all over the world. After going through cancer treatment, a liver transplant and hormonal imbalances, Steve finally handed over the baton to Tim Cook.
Tim Cook has been stated to be the perfect choice to lead Apple as he has had hands-on experience with leading Apple during Steve’s sabbatical in 2009.
Know your mobile wishes Steve and Apple nothing but the best.
