In today’s hectic times, it is really annoying receive calls or messages which are nothing more than a marketing gimmick. So, how do you avoid them?

According to a Govt. of India survey, an estimated 75 million spam SMSs are sent out everyday.

Well, there is a simple answer to all your troubles. The Do-not-disturb (DND) service, which till now has been available in countries like the U.S. and U.K., is now available in India.

As Per Telecom regulatory authority of India (TRAI), consumers can register their mobile numbers for inclusion in the National Consumer Preference Register (NCPR), by simply dialing 1909 and following the instructions given via a pre-recorded message.

Know your mobile wouldn’t advice you to call them directly as there is bound to be a long waiting list for the service. In case you go for this service, you can check the status of your number at the NCPR website.

The best way to use the DND feature is to call the customer care number of your mobile provider and talk with the customer care executive to get DND activated. This way you can get your number registered within seven days of registering.

All major telecom brands such as  Vodafone and Airtel provide links and instructions related to using DND on their websites. In case you are bored and wanted to get back the daily calls and messages, you can simply de-register with your mobile service provider.

You would be happy to know that in case a telemarketer dares to bug you even after registering for DND, he/she would face up to a Rs. 25,000 fine at the first offence and five offences would mean the cancellation of his/her telemarketing license.
