The Motorola Atrix was one of the earliest dual core Android smartphones launched in the market after the LG Optimus 2x. The Atrix attracted customers with the docking ports that Motorola offered with the handset.

But the Atrix has begun to lose its charm a little with other dual core droids making their way into the market. And to combat the growing competition among smartphones, Motorola is preparing a successor to the Atrix in the form of Atrix 2 codenamed Edison for the time being.

We saw a couple of spy shots of the handset being leaked a few days ago, but now we have a fresh lot of pictures which shed more light on the handset itself. Though these new images are slightly different from what we saw in the previous leak, there’s no doubt that the handset in question here is the Atrix 2. Sources reveal that the Atrix 2 could be the global version of the Verizon Droid Bionic which has a 4.3 inch qHD resolution display and an 8MP camera.

The Atrix 2 will apparently come with the same qHD resolution that blew everything away out of proportions 9 months ago, coupled with an 8MP camera with 1080p Full HD video recording capabilities and Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread, with an Ice Cream Sandwich update on the horizon.

Disappointingly, this is all the information we could gather as of now. But we can expect Motorola to make an announcement soon to put an end to all the mystery. Hopefully, Motorola will carry out a more global marketing approach for the Motorola Atrix 2 which will help the manufacturer reach into prime markets like India and other Asian countries.

There is no doubt that Motorola will be able to find a great customer base for the Atrix 2 in Asian countries, given how handsets like the Galaxy S II, Optimus 2x and the HTC Sensation have driven the customers crazy with raw performance.
