Samsung wants to open up its homegrown mobile OS platform

Published on Sep 22, 2011

According to the Wall Street Journal report, Samsung the biggest technology company by revenue is planning to develop its own OS platform. With this OS the dependence of Samsung on Google’s Android will get reduced. This OS will most probably be the Bada OS. Samsung is planning to make this Bada OS an open source operating system.

To develop this OS, Samsung is not willing to buy any software company. Besides the company might buy an operating system owned by the rivals. Google has almost taken over the Motorola company at the bid of 12.5 billion dollars. But the analyst says that other handset makers lag behind the Motorola in securing the technology support from Google in the longer period.

Samsung has beaten Nokia in the handset sales after the launch of its Galaxy phones. So, in the competition to Samsung and the biggest leader the Apple inc. Nokia has joined its hands with Microsoft. So, now every brand wants to own a different OS for their upcoming handsets.

The Bada platform is aimed to maintain the string growth of Samsung’s high-end devices. Samsung launched the Bada OS in 2009, since then this platform is used in the company’s cheapest phones especially the feature phones but now after its development may be this platform will rule in all upcoming smartphone. But how will it perform in competition with the big platforms like Android and windows that is really difficult to speculate.

But since the Nokia is also moving from Symbian to Windows it is the right time for the Samsung to execute its plan at this point of time otherwise it would be too late to launch a new OS.
