Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg showcases major changes to the social network
Published on Sep 23, 2011
At the recently held f8 conference, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg showcased a slew of new features and changes, which aim at taking the social network to the next level. Know Your Mobile provides a closer look at revamped Facebook and what it brings to the table.
Facebook + Music = Fun!
Facebook has working in collaboration with developers to integrate music apps such as Turntable.com and IHeartradio to make its interface look more interactive than it currently is.
You can now find out what friends are listening to and share music freely. Using this feature, you can discover and tap into others’ music leanings.
Facebook has collaborated with providers such as Spotify to integrate more than 400 million music playlists on FB.
We would like to warn you here. You can just listen to music and not download it for free. The initiative is to peak your interest in music so that you end up purchasing music and your moolah ends up in FB’s coffers.
Timeline: Facebook’s newest profile feature
Timeline is a new feature that allows you to integrate all your apps, notes and status updates together. Timeline has for a long time, been in the pipeline.
Basically, Timeline transforms FB into more of a personal scrapbook. By using this feature, you would be able to add specific links, check-ins, likes and interests directly to your wall.
A Timeline would serve, as a round up of all your status, making your FB page look like your personal life story. Facebook would itself pick up the important status updates with a blue dot and the not-so-important ones with a grey dot. Users would themselves be able to adjust their timeline according to their own preferences using the settings tab or maybe just using a drag and drop feature.
Timeline is expected to be rolled out during the course of next two months.
Feed ticker: Feed inside your feed
If you are using the revamped version of Facebook, you will notice a right-hand corner feed button. The purpose of this button is to highlight activity as such as friends’ actions (likes/pokes) and comments.
The aim of this new feature is to enhance the news feed to contain more interesting information like status updates, photos and videos. If you use a lot of games and apps, your activity and updates will be recorded in the ticker unless you choose otherwise.
Watch TV and movies with friends
Facebook is also planning to integrate movies and videos on the network, so that people can watch and enjoy together.
All the social-networking addicts now just need to get some popcorn and switch on their FB. Just click and watch together.
Mark Zuckerberg has always played a risky game with new versions of FB. In the past, his efforts haven’t been totally welcomed.
But this time, it seems, he is right on the money.
Will he kick-ass this time?
I guess we will have to wait and see.
