Microsoft has released an update for it’s developers to ‘clean up’ the pre-RTM version of Mango running on their Windows Phone devices

Microsoft’s new update is called “Mango Friends and Family Bundle: Pre-Cleanup” and has been unveiled to the company’s developers. These are the developers who had installed and run a version of the operating system Mango on their Windows Phone 7 handsets that was pre-RTM. This update is meant to ‘clean up’ and smooth any glitches in this version.
According to Winrumurs, a note from Microsoft accompanying the update reads, “This is the first of two updates which will clean up any Beta update provisioning on your phone so that it can begin receiving updates from production Microsoft Update servers.” The update is set to release soon for other Windows Phone Mango users as well.
With this update, Microsoft is probably hoping to avoid the mess it made with NoDo, in which early adapters of NoDo couldn’t get updates and were stuck with glitches. Two updates for Mango will hopefully make the exercise of developing and updating fool-proof.
In such a scenario, it is important for Microsoft to smooth out Beta update provisioning on smartphones running on Windows Phone 7. What better place to start than with the developers who get the very first version of Mango for their Windows Phone devices?
If this and the subsequent update is successfully distributed, phones powered by the Windows Phone Mango OS will be able to receive and integrate updates from the Microsoft servers effortlessly in the future.
Microsoft needs to maintain consistency with its Mango roll out, specially with the competition it is going to be facing from the new and improved iOS and Android phones this quarter.
If Microsoft plays its cards right and makes Mango function perfectly, it has a good chance of winning over a few loyalists, especially those hooked on to the Windows way of life.
