Amazon is planning to roll out three tablets in the upcoming months.
The first amongst the line-up, the Amazon Kindle Fire tablet is expected to be rolled out tomorrow at a press event. Unlike the much talked about Coyote and Hollywood tablets, the Kindle Fire is not believed to compete with the iPad, rather Amazon is targeting the budget tablet market with a $250-300 <Rs. 12,500-15,000 approx.> price tag.
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is expected to unveil the Kindle Fire tablet himself at a press event tomorrow. The Fire is expected to be a 7-inch Android tablet most probably armed with a Gingerbread or Honeycomb OS. It looks quite similar to the Blackberry Playbook.
The reason behind that is believed to be that Amazon is getting its tablets from the same company i.e. Quanta Electronics. If one goes by the net buzz, Quanta helped Amazon to push out the Kindle Fire faster by using the same design as the Playbook.
Amazon is believed to be testing the waters by releasing the Kindle Fire before its high-end tablets. Smart strategy, we would say, as 2011 has been the year when high-end tablets like the Blackberry Playbook and Motorola failed to achieve sales targets.
An affordable tablet would prepare the ground for Amazon’s upcoming tablets and give it more knowledge and experience of the tablet market.
For a long time, everyone has had his or her eye on the Amazon tablet line-up. Also known as the iPad-killer, the upcoming Amazon tablets are believed to pose real competition to Apple’s iPad.
We hope the Kindle Fire comes to India soon and we can add it to our existing line-up of budget tablets such as the HP Touchpad and iBall Slide.
