Folks over at Engadget have got details about the Xoom 2. In fact, there are rumoured to be two devices: the Motorola Xoom 2 and a smaller Media Edition of the same, both of which are LTE compatible. Motorola’s new offering most likely will be unveiled at CES 2012. The timing fits in well with the release of the Android Ice Cream Sandwich which is just around the corner, though as yet it is believed that the Xoom 2 is a Honeycomb machine.

The tablet is powered by a Texas Instruments OMAP 4 system on a chip which is speculated to be quite like the one that powers the Kindle Fire, according to Pocket-lint. Motorola Xoom 2 has a dual-core CPU with 1.2GHz and 1GB of RAM and it features a screen measuring 10.1’’. The device is said to be quite thin at 9 mm and has ports for HDMI, micro-USB and SIM card. The HD 5-mega pixel camera can shoot videos up to 1080p. The device comes with a front facing camera as well.

The Media Edition of the Xoom 2 is smaller with an 8.2’’ screen that is nevertheless HD capable. It even sports IPS for a better viewing angle. What sets the Media Edition apart from other tablets is the anti-glare, water-proof Gorilla glass that it includes.

Though it is slightly thicker at 9.3mm, the 430g machine does pack a punch. According to Thisismynext, the tablet may come with an IR remote and a sub-woofer. Pocket-lint predicts that the camera on the Media Edition is the same as that on the larger tablet and that the device will come with a stylus pen and an optical keyboard case.

Though the pricing of Motorola’s newest tablet is yet unknown, if the reception of the Motorola Xoom is anything to go by, the Xoom 2 will be well received by tablet enthusiasts. If it delivers everything that people are expecting from the Xoom 2, Motorola might be able to compete successfully with Apple, Samsung and Sony in the coming year.
