Apple had a lot to say at the media event held at its headquarters yesterday. iOS 5, iCloud and iPhone 4S are all coming to us soon

Published on Oct 5, 2011

Apple’s big day lived up to the high expectations that the world had set for it. Even tough there was no iPhone 5, users have a lot to rejoice about. The spruced up iOS 5, the new iCloud and the upgraded iPhone 4S have everyone excited about the changes Apple is bringing into the way we communicate with each other and live our lives.

Topping the list of the ten best announcements made at Apple’s event is the one introducing the iOS 5.

iOS 5

The new and improved OS will be available for Apple users of iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad, iPad 2 and the third and fourth generations of iPod Touch free of charge. It can be downloaded to Apple devices starting October 12. The OS has over 200 new features.

Cards

Among its many features, iOS 5 introduces Cards, the application that takes users back to the era of hand written paper cards. A paid application, it gives users the chance to have cards designed by them printed out and delivered by Apple. The app also notifies the user when the card has reached the recipient.

Twitter integration

A deep Twitter integration with the OS will allow users to tweet wherever they are, whatever they are doing. Twitter will now work seamlessly across all other applications including YouTube, Photos etc.

Improved Notifications

The improved notifications centre will hold all of the user’s notifications in one location. Notifications will not hamper the working of the iOS and will be conveniently accessible by a simple scroll down the iPhone’s screen.

iMessage

iMessage will allow users to communicate over 3G and Wi-Fi on any of their Apple devices for free. Users will also get notifications when messages are delivered and read and even when the respondent types a response.

Newsstand

Newsstand will now download content continuously in the background for Apple users who are subscribed to paid newspapers and magazines like the New York Times.

Find My Friends

Find My Friends allows users to set up location sharing temporarily. This is a great feature for parents who can restrict their children from turning off the feature and also help them control who they share their location information with.

 iCloud

iCloud will release on October 12 as well. It gives Apple users 5GB of free space in which to sync, download, upload and share data which will be pushed to all of their devices automatically.

iPhone 4S storage -
16 GB, 32 GB, 64 GB

Even though iPhone 4S has taken the place of the much anticipated iPhone 5, the phone does have a lot to offer. It will be available in 3 models of 16 GB, 32 GB and the incredible 64 GB and will feature the new voice recognition system Siri. The world phone running on the A5 chip will be releasing in 7 countries on October 14.

Apple also announced the drop in prices of its former models, to make way for the new smartphone. iPhone 4 will retail at $ 99 with a contract and iPhone 3GS will retail free of cost with a contract.

Games

Apple’s game, camera and reminder applications have also been updated on the new OS. All in all, the developments at yesterday’s event have put Apple out there once again, ready to take on the mobile world.

The coming festive season is going to be a promising one with so many new options in operating systems and smartphones vying for the world’s attention.
