Apple changed the way we lived our lives and communicated with each other when it introduced the first iPhone 4 years ago, back in 2007. The original iPhone was powered by a 412MHz Samsung 1176 processor which made the phone ‘smart’. The phone had a rear 2 mega-pixel camera and came in 4GB, 8GB and 16GB models with 128MB of RAM.

Its successor the iPhone 3G ran on the same processor, sported the same camera and came in the same models. The difference was that Apple discontinued the 4GB model and the new phone had a few minor revamps.

Then came the iPhone 3GS with its 600MHz Samsung Cortex A8 processor. Along with the 8GB and 16GB models arrived a 32GB and a larger RAM of 256MB. The 3MP rear camera on this phone was able to capture still images as well as video with features like auto zoom and auto focus.

The iPhone 4 was a notch higher with an 800MHz Apple A4 processor and 2 cameras. The 8GB model was done away with and the 16GB and 32GB models now came with 512MB of RAM. The rear 5MP camera with its LED flash was capable of shooting video and still pictures at 720p. The 0.7MP front facing camera could shoot video and still images, a boon for video callers.

The new and improved iPhone 4S was just introduced with the incredible 1GHz Apple A5 processor that powers the iPad 2. Along with the 16GB and 32GB models comes the huge 64GB model of the phone. Its 8MP still and video rear camera shoots clear 1080p images. In addition to the iPhone camera’s usual auto focus and auto zoom features, this one has LED flash, IR filter and image stabilizer.

The front camera is unchanged, a copy of the iPhone 4’s camera. Both the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S come with a Retina display, though the iPhone’s screen size has been constant through the ages at 3.5’’. Noise cancellation is another unique feature that sets the iPhone 4 and 4S apart from their peers.

The rumoured iPhone 6 is said to be an even lighter and thinner device. Though details are sketchy, users will most likely be able to charge the phone wirelessly. Running on the A6 processor, the phone will sport an LCD scratch and water-proof display and promise a longer battery life.

With all its innovations, Apple has carved a niche for itself unlike any other smartphone manufacturer. If it continues to imagine and invent devices like the iPhone, iPad and the iPod in the coming years, the world has a lot to look foreword to.
