The tech world came to a standstill when the news of Apple leader Steve Jobs, at 56, poured in. Slash Gear reports that Steve’s legacy will be heralded - through education. While Apple products already come with educational initiatives, raging from the Macbook to the iPod, the Apple University will take inspiration from Steve Jobs to create new thinking and learning strategies.
Joel Polodny, former dean of Yale School of Business, who was recruited by Jobs himself for the project, commented that the Apple University would be ‘a forum to impart Jobs’ DNA to future generations’. The project is expected to ensure a future for Apple besides creating employment opportunities for numerous people.
“One of the things that Steve Jobs understood very well is that Apple is like no other company on the planet. It became pretty clear that Apple needed a set of educational materials so that Apple employees could learn to think and make decisions as if they were Steve Jobs.” - project analyst Tim Bajarin was quoted as saying.
The Apple University initiative is not a new one. Jobs himself started the project in 2008, when Polodny was recruited to keep Apple’s future secure.
Currently, a circular spaceship campus is set to come up. The floor plans have already been laid and it is expected to be operational by 2015.
The man that Jobs handed the job to – Polodny was seen to be successful a Yale by increasing applications to the school by 50% and scholar students by 20%. His capacity to respond well to student was noticed by Jobs and he too was attracted by Jobs’ vision. Polodny in his farewell note to Yale said – “While there are many great companies, I cannot think of one that has had as tremendous personal meaning for me as Apple.”
The Apple University initiative seems to be an ambitious one. I shows the vision that Steve Jobs’ had and creates a the hope for a bright future for Apple after Jobs.
