Google and Samsung have decided to postpone the rumored Google Nexus Prime product announcement
Published on Oct 10, 2011
Following in the footsteps of the recent leak of the Ice Cream Sandwich running Google Nexus Prime, came a leak of the Ice Cream Sandwich screenshots and video, which looked quite genuine this time.
But, Alas, to the disappointment of Android fans worldwide both companies have postponed the October 11 announcement.
"Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced,” reads a statement from both companies.
According to speculations, the announcement, which was expected to be the release declaration of the Google Nexus Prime, has been delayed due to two main reasons. Firstly, the leak of the Ice Cream Sandwich video and screenshots.
The Ice Cream Sandwich OS, going by the screenshots, seemed to be a cusp of the Honeycomb and Gingerbread operating systems. According to speculations, it comes with a revamped graphical UI amongst many other new features.
The leak might have delayed the Ice Cream Sandwich OS launch. Apple has already debuted its new operating system – the OS 5, and Google, taking inspiration might have wanted to work a bit more on its own OS.
Secondly, the passing of Apple chief Steve Jobs. The death of Jobs seems to have impacted every nook and corner of the tech industry and Google’s heart might not be made of stone. Although it seems highly improbable, Google might have taken the high road and vanquished an opportunity to strike Apple at its weakest.
This way or that, it seems a huge disappointment for Android enthusiasts who have been waiting for a new Android OS for ages.
While the release has been postponed a video of the Ice Cream Sandwich in action along with screenshots are up for all to see.
