Siri is a voice assistant feature of the iPhone 4S. It’s intelligent voice recognition is one of the USPs of the iPhone 4S. Know Your Mobile provides you a closer look at this fascinating assistant that you will love to live with.
What, really, is the Siri Voice assistant?
Well, Siri is an iPhone 4S application that provides you with a personal assistant. The application processes your voice commands and integrates them with web services.
Siri has been developed using artificial intelligence softwares. Think of it more like the toned down version of a robot. Siri simply takes your voice commands, processes them, narrows them to the most suitable outputs and provides them to you.
While most smartphones nowadays come embedded with voice recognition softwares (Windows phone comes with a press and start, Android by tapping the search button and Blackberry using the voice command button), the difference with Siri is that it is said to adapt to a consumer’s needs and preferences.
It being much more embedded in the iPhone 4S makes it easy to schedule tasks and set alarms just using your voice. Siri can also used for tasks such as making a dinner reservation or replying to a text message.
How to use it on an iPhone 4S?
That’s very simple. Just hold down the home button and Siri starts up. As you talk to the phone, the handset starts adapting to your voice.
So, What does Siri do?
Well, frankly, a lot of things. Siri performs a number of tasks. We at Know Your Mobile give you our pick of the favorite Siri stuff we like:
Reminders
Simply set reminders on your phone via voice. For example, if you for want to be reminded to order a Pizza when you get home, simply tell your iPhone 4S to remind you. It goes without saying that you would have to feed the time of your getting home into Siri.
The feature seems quite interesting although, we would have liked it better synced with applications and functions like GPS etc. to make it even more convenient to use as it would then be completely like a mini-robot.
Texting
Are you ordained to typing long text messages, which make your fingers ache? Well, you no longer need to do that. The Siri voice assistant translates your voice to text. But, there is always a doubt if it would pick up and correctly decipher your accent. Also, what if you make a blooper? Would you have to say the whole thing again? That remains to be seen.
To activate the voice-to-text feature, simply tell your iPhone 4S whom you want to send the text to and then read out what you want to say. Then, just say ‘send’ and you are done.
Weather
Just ask Siri how the weather is in different parts of the city and it reverts back with information from Apple weather feed.
We hope that Siri is better at telling weather than our own meteorological department!
