October has turned out not only to be a rollercoaster for Apple. Its iPhone 4S, which was considered a slob when it was launched at the ‘Lets talk iPhone’ event, has opened to unexpected numbers. In fact, the iPhone 4S has surprised the world by clocking more than 1 million preorders. Such is the rate of preorders, that not only it is double of the iPhone 4 preorder, it also pats the cost the acquisition of the Siri Voice assistant – considered one of the stellar features of the iPhone 4S.
And those are just the numbers from the preorders in U.S. and Europe. Apple has even offered the unlocked version of the handset in every region except the U.S. and Japan. While the unlocked device costs around 500 Pounds (Rs.40,000) a in the U.K. and $199 (Rs. 10,000). Apple has already stacked $200 million in bank from the combined sales of the iPhone 4S, and the figure is expected to increase even more in the coming days and months. Its raining cash for Apple. Every iPhone expected bring in around 500 Pounds making Apple’s already fat wallet even fatter.
Getting back to the main story. $ 200 million is a very significant number for Apple. Not only because it is Apple’s highest pre-order till date, but that is the amount paid for the purchase of its voice assistant, Siri. In 2010, Apple superceded manufacturers such as Google and Blackberry to purchase Siri. Apple seems to have become the big daddy of all manufacturers, such was its might that all Android and other manufacturers could do was to look towards it with gaping mouths.
Siri, it seems will be a major pro in Apple’s battle with Android. Siri is definitely one of the most impressive features of the iPhone 4S. It seems revolutionary would be the word to describe this. While no one has yet gotten their hands on the iPhone 4S, the trailer that Apple provides in its iPhone 4S video is sufficient to say it’s an unprecedented feature.
It seems Apple has learnt something from all voice recognition features and came up with its won. Siri does almost everything you would employ a secretary for. It schedules appointments, stores reminders, provides weather updates, answers questions, does everything short of reading your mind. In fact, you can even dictate text messages to it and it would reply cutting down on finger-aching SMSs.
My personal view is that Steve Jobs has striked back, even in death; through his iPhone 4S to showed us we needn’t doubt his creations even after he has passed away.
Even while people were giving thumbs down to the iPhone 4S, I had said it’s a respectable smartphone, just that it needed to move away from the shadow of the iPhone 5. Guess what, my prophecy has become true. (Might sound like a tall claim. Its true just the same)
This just goes to show Apple still has the horsepower to go the distance and provide us with an iPhone that we simply won’t be able to resist.
