Nokia has recently released two new phones, the C2-05 and the X2-05. The phones are the company’s answer to people who desire everything that a smartphone offers but do not want to burn a hole in their pockets buying an expensive device.

What sets the phones apart from their peers is the browser that comes preinstalled in the devices. The browser is equipped with Nokia’s compression technology that uses a cloud service to obtain a webpage and converts it into a version that is displayed on the phone. In fact, Amazon uses a similar compression technology to power Silk, the browser on its new tablet Fire.

Nokia’s new technology will make web based services easily available to people from developing countries and those who have limited data plans or face low internet speeds due to congested networks. The way it works, the technology will ensure that users get the best of the web at very reasonable rates.

Phones like those recently released by Nokia come with social networking applications pre-loaded on them, making staying touch while on the go remarkable easy. The phones also have the Nokia Store pre-installed in them. Similar to the App Store, it offers users thousands of application to choose from and enjoy on their Nokia phones.

With this compression technology, Nokia hopes to reach out to a large untapped market of mobile phone users that fall into a category between avid smartphone users and people who prefer simple devices that are only useful for making and receiving calls.

Nokia’s new phones should ideally hit global retail stores within the year. Equipped with the new compression technology, the phones will be able to consolidate the European phone maker’s position in the mobile phone market, especially in the untapped segment it is making a foray into.
