Nokia launches C2-05 and X2-05 feature phones targeting the budget consumer
Published on Oct 12, 2011
Nokia seems to have embarked on a new strategy to recover its lost market share. It is designing phones keeping the budget consumer in mind. After the launch of the Nokia 100 and Nokia 101, Nokia has come up with the Nokia C2-05 and X2-05 feature phones.
Both phones are designed keeping in mind the budget consumer who looks for design, features and affordability all in a single handset.
The C2-05 is a slider phone, which looks quite similar to an old Nokia handset – the Nokia 5300 Xpressmusic slider phone. While that phone was designed around people’s music needs, this one is more about their social networking ones.
It has a 2-inch QVGA LCD screen with a resolution of up to 320 x240 pixels. It comes with a VGA camera with digital zoom and a full-screen viewfinder. The handset also has a built-in media player along with up to 32 GB MicroSD support. It also has Bluetooth along with a stereo headset available with the phone.
The C2-05 comes in 3 colors – pink, blue and grey.
The Nokia C2-05 has a dedicated Nokia store and a Nokia browser along with dedicated Facebook and Twitter apps. It will also come with regional apps once it hits the Indian shelves.
The X2-05 is an affordable music phone. It would have a 2.2 -Inch QVGA screen along with inbuilt Nokia Browser and Nokia store. While the phone will be pre-loaded with Facebook and Twitter, the media player seems to be the central focus of the handset. It also features a VGA camera at the back of the handset.
The handset would play MP3 and MP4 files, both with a stereo headset and with a 106 Phons loudspeaker. Along with that, it would feature an FM with the option to record from the radio.
The handset would offer Bluetooth and up to 32 GB MicroSD support. It would be available in Black, Silver, White and Red colors.
Both the phones have currently been released in Europe and are expected to hit the Indian markets in the coming months. While the C2-05 is selling at a price of 60 Euros (Rs. 3,000), the X2-05 is priced at 46 Euros (Rs. 2,300).
The budget phone market is heating up with launch of phones like the Sony Ericsson Txt and Txt Pro. Will Nokia stand the challenge? That remains to be seen.
