ViewPad 10e is powered by the Android Gingerbread operating system and runs on a single core 1Ghz Cortex A8 processor. It offers 512Mb of DDR3 RAM and in internal memory of 4GB. Users who wish to expand the tablet’s memory to 32GB can do so by using a microSD card.
With dimensions of 9.5 x 7.4 x 0.36’’, the device is quite light at 620 grams. The tablet comes equipped with a 9.7’’ screen which offers a resolution of 1024 x 768p. This resolution is comparable to that found on the TouchPad and the iPad 2.
A front facing 1.3MP camera makes video calls possible with the tablet which sports connections like microUSB, mini HDMI, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The interface used on the machine is ViewScene 3D. This UI allows a user to customise panels and widgets on the screen. In fact, users can choose from 16 available panels, along with choosing their online marketplace access. ViewPad 10e comes pre-installed with Amazon Kindle that offers users access to over 700,000 books, magazines and newspapers.
Though ViewSonic is marketing the tablet as an affordable alternative to more expensive devices, its final retail price is yet unknown. The tablet will be available in the UK next month, and hopefully will roll out in the rest of the world soon after.
With the launch of ViewPad 10e, Viewsonic is making a smart, sleek machine available to everyone at a reasonable price. It is sure to do well in the retail markets of the developing countries of Asia, heating up the competition along the way. Hopefully the device will be available in India and China by the end of the year.
