Blackberry maker RIM has announced its two new handsets – the Bold 9790 and Curve 9380 in a blog post to the developer community so that they can develop apps for these upcoming smartphones.

Blackberry Bold 9790 and curve 9380 coming soon?

As the post is intended for developers and not the general public, it doesn’t divulge a great deal about the handsets. However, looking at the blog post, we can say that the 9380 would be a full touchscreen phone with a 3.2-inch 480 x 360p display.

Blackberry has also declared that developers would have to modify the existing Blackberry Bold 9700 and Torch 9800 apps to make them fully compatible with the 9380.

The 9380 seems more like a touch edition of the recently released Blackberry Curve 9360.

The Blackberry 9790, on the other hand would be equipped with a 2.44-inch 480 x 370p display with a QWERTY keypad.

Both phones would run on the Blackberry OS 7. Blackberry has also released SDKs for both phones indicating that they would be up for release soon.

The Blackberry 9380 seems fresh news while the Bold 9790 has been earlier leaked in images. While nothing can be confirmed about the phone, it should run on a 1.2-GHz processor with 8GB internal memory that can be expanded to 32/64 GB. Along with that it is expected to support a 5-megapixel primary camera and a smaller one for video chat.

While Blackberry could have held its cards to its chest and surprised the market by releasing both phones without prior information, it has chosen to reveal them to developers. We would call it a pragmatic step as other operating systems are moving ahead of the Blackberry OS 7 rapidly. Its phones lack the wholesome app support that iOS and Android OS handsets have.

Developers can now adapt their apps for upcoming Blackberry phones, which means that both phones are expected to come pre-loaded with useful apps. In a dynamic smartphone market, RIM is on its toes to match up with other players in the market.

Know Your Mobile wises Blackberry the best of luck.
