Samsung was recently caught passing off a screenshot of the iPhone’s Map application in a promo for its new device. This is not the first time the company has been caught copying Apple

Samsung is hell bent on raging a war with Apple. As if the various law suits involving the two tech majors raging around the globe were not enough, Samsung has apparently used an image that shows off the iPhone Map application for a promo that it is running for its latest music device, the Galaxy Player.

The image in question is a screenshot of the smartphone’s Map application that was put up by Laura Scott on BlogHer 3 years ago in 2008. According to Apple Insider, Daring Fireball via Jeremy Philippe found that Samsung had copied the image for it’s own use by tweaking it a bit to make it look as it would appear on an Android device.

Since then the picture has apparently been removed from the Samsung website but it looks like the damage is done, at least in the tech world. Samsung is hoping to compete with Apple’s iPod Touch with its Galaxy Player.

Apple and Samsung have been at each others necks for a long time now. Apple has accused Samsung of copyright infringement across various devices. Even though a number of recent judgements have been passed in favour of Apple, Samsung is not willing to leave well alone. This may spell trouble for both corporations in the future, given that Samsung manufactures various components for Apple.

Apple has long been the innovator, Samsung the catcher on. Despite playing catch up, it is pretty commendable that Samsung has succeeded in carving a niche for itself with its Android powered tablets and smartphones. Android loyalists will probably continue to keep Samsung at the top, provided that the company doesn’t waste it’s time and energy on useless copying tactics that land it in one lawsuit after another.
