Android Ice Cream Sandwich vs iOS 5: The ultimate face-off

Apple and Google have recently launched the latest platforms for their newly launched handsets in the market  iPhone 4S and Galaxy Nexus. We pit both the devices together to see how they fare:

Round 1

Hardware Support: All of those who endorse the Apple devices like iPhone, iPod and iPad, can upgrade their devices with the latest iOS5 that is avaible for update via iTunes. But for Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) the story is a little different. You need to first confirm that whether your device is upgradable to ICS or not and most of the Android device launched earlier aren’t upgradable to the ICS operating system. 

Winner: Apple iOS5

Round 2

Open Source OS: iOS5 is not a open source OS. It comes with only Apple products and it cannot be run on any other devices. The Android on the other hand is an open source OS and it comes with different brand of handsets and tablets. Even in today’s time customer prefer open source platform. So, from that point of view ICS is a better option for the users.

Winner: Google Android Ice Cream Sandwich

Round 3: User Interface (UI): The latest version iOS5 hasn’t shown any significant changes in it UI. It is almost similar to its predecessors but it comes with a set of new buttons on its home screen or in the setting options. Now it comes with integrated Twitter button and iClouds button. Whereas, in comparison to iOS5, ICS have also not made any eye-catching changes. ICS is basically a merging of Honeycomb and Gingerbread. So, it is really difficult to say that there are really any significant changes in the UI that draws the attention of the buyers.

Round 4: Brand Equity: It is a known fact that Android comes after the iOS, but we cannot deny that Android is the next best OS in the world today. If we compare the iOS and Android then we can still say that Android stands just along with the iOS. But if we compare iOS5 and ICS particularly, then iOS5 is far better than ICS as it comes with a lot-exciting feature like the compatibility with the iClouds, whereas ICS is just an upgrade of Honeycomb and Gingerbread.

Winner: Apple iOS5

Final Verdict: None of the OS can be called a sole reason to go for any particular device. As Ios5 update is available via iTunes and ICS doesn’t stands out with any unique feature. but as per the changes the company has brought in these OS, iOS5 stands as a better OS than the Ice Cream Sandwich.
