BBX: The next generation operating system for BlackBerry smartphones and playbook arrives

Research In Motion (RIM), announces BBX as their next generation OS platform for BlackBerry and playbook tablet. With this announcement RIM is following Apple and Google's strategy of bringing a common platform for smartphones and tablet devices.

BBX is  a cross between BlackBerry OS and QNX platform. It is expected that this new OS will bring forth new HTML5 with BlackBerry WebWorks, Adobe AIR, Native C/C++ and the Android App Player. With the Android App Player you will get access to download apps from the Android Market. You will also be able to run Android apps on your BlackBerry devices.

The BBX will have a complete new style of User Interface that supports more advanced graphic and along with this it will support the “Super App” capabilities also like the BlackBerry security, BBM and always-on push services. 

Mike Lazaridis, Co-CEO of Research In Motion, said, “BlackBerry app developers will earn more money than any other platform. It is because the quality app is missing in the App world, so it’s a great opportunity for them to bring a lot new apps for the BBX operated device, however, it will also support the Android apps, which are available in plenty at the Android Market."

RIM has also announced the BlackBerry balance that helps the user to access their office data without worrying about the security. The company is also looking forward to test the 3D games on the BlackBerry device with the help of the OpenGL ES 2.0.

BlackBerry users may also be playing some heavy games like Dead Space, Lara Croft and the Guardian Light with the help of the Ideaworks Game Studio’s Marmalade platform posted for the BlackBerry Playbook.

Lazaridis also claimed that QNX has a safe architecture and it will not compromise the multi-core performance in real-time. BlackBerry has also offered new SDK Scoreloop to the developers to design new games for the BBX platform. So, it is sure that the new OS BBX will definitely bring a lot new apps and new games for the BlackBerry users.
