"It is coming", we have been hearing that for quite some time. But with the latest Asus Transformer 2 teaser and a official word from none other than Asus executive Jonney Shih, our faith in the arrival of this powerful device is cemented.
At the AsiaD conference hosted by All Things D, Shih surprised everybody by pulling out the device along with its keyboard attachment. He also confirmed that the tablet will be “Nvidia’s quad core processor” aka Tegra 3 and will be stunningly slim at 8.3mm. The tablet is expected to be announced on November 9th.
According to Android Community, Shih refrained from disclosing the OS for the Transformer 2. He however did tease the audience by saying that the tablet will incorporate Android's latest version. With the Ice Cream Sandwich just announced, we are placing our bets on it.
Recently the Transformer 2 cropped up on a website, confirming its pricing listed at £537.85 (Rs 42,000) and specifications like NVIDIA Tegra 3 unit, Android ICS, 32GB internal memory. While most of the manufacturers are slashing prices of their devices, Asustek CEO Jerry Shen has clearly stated that it is not planning to cut back on the price of either Eee Pad Transformer or Transformer 2.
Speaking to Digitimes, Shen was quoted as saying, "the Android tablet PCs have been seeing improvements and the upcoming Android 4.0, should be able to help Android tablet PC to compete against Apple's iPad on the same ground".
What still remains unknown about this super duper tablet is its dimensions, resolution (hopefully higher than its predecessor's i.e 1200 x 800), camera ( rumored around 5-megapixel) and 720p video capabilities. There is no official word on its India launch but we expect to see the Transformer 2 arrive early next year.
Apart from Transformer 2, Shih also talked about the Asus’ PadPhone. Remember? Well the smartphone/ tablet hybrid has been confirmed to have a Ice Cream Sandwich OS and is scheduled for release early 2012.
