
Bharti Enterprises and SoftBank join hands to develop mobile internet ecosystem in India

Tapping in on the fast-growing mobile Internet market in India, India’s Bharti Enterprises, parent company of Airtel has announced a joint venture with Japanese telecom operator SoftBank. According to the official announcement, the alliance “established to focus on mobile Internet” in India will work specifically on three areas - social media, gaming and e-commerce.
This joint venture known as Bharti Softbank Holdings Pte Ltd (BSB) offers opportunity for Bharti to gain knowledge from its japanese counterpart who boast of 26.8 million strong subscriber base in Japan. On the hand Japanese operator will be able to gain understanding and establish a foothold in the growing Indian mobile market.
According to TNW also "SoftBank’s experience could massively help with the building of new infrastructure, the provision of new services such as 4G or LTE and other activity that is key to providing the benefits of Internet services to more of the Indian population."
Kavin Bharti Mittal, Head of Strategy and New Product Development at Bharti Softbank Holdings Pte Ltd (BSB) said, "with a fast growing economy, a large youth population and access to cheaper and faster data, there is a unique opportunity to build services ground up for mobile, especially in a country where the first screen for most is a mobile device. We are delighted to partner with SoftBank, whose vast experience in this area will help us build and invest in services for India.” In the Indian market, as mobile phones are increasingly providing users with their first internet experience, the scope for growth is immense.
Mobile Internet has revolutionized the society and with the introductions of more catered services and desired features it will cease to be just a technology rather a integral part of mobile users life.
