"I think we’re close," was the response of Google’s senior vice president to the expected launch of company’s new Google Music Store.

Taking the stage at the Asia D conference in Hong Kong, Andy Rubin also stated that the Music store ‘won’t just be selling 99-cent tracks" but rather have a "twist".

Rubin didn't disclose any more information about the Google’s business model. Primarily seen as a search engine company, Google has been diversifying its portfolio - firstly through the Android operating system and now google music store.

However the transition in this image transformation will not be easy. "The media industry didn’t see us as that. They saw us a search company," added Rubin while talking about Google's plans on adding consumer products to their portfolio.

Earlier in May, Google launched "Music Beta" which allowed users to store up to 20,000 songs to the Cloud. It also provided tech speak for storing data on remote servers and then accessing them through an Internet connection. Readily accessible by users from any compatible gadget, the Music Beta service did not allow music downloads.

We has earlier reported about Google's plan to launch a new music store and its ongoing efforts to strike a deal with top record labels. It also appears that the new Google music store will be integrated with Google Music Beta. We will have to wait for more news on the new Google music store.
