According to reports, LG is expected to opt for Android 4.0 – Ice Cream Sandwich OS for its soon to be released Optimus U1 handset. An anonymous tipster on Twitter has leaked some photos of the phone to GSMarena, which look like press shots.

Unfortunately, not much else is know about the handset. Going by the photos, the LG Optimus U1 seems a rectangular slab phone with a large touchscreen, probably a 3.5-inch to a 4.5-inch one.

Currently, the phone seems to be targeted exclusively towards South Korea as Korean career U+ I tipped to get the phone soon.

The LG Optimus U1 also looks a bit similar to Samsung’s Galaxy S2 handset, with a large screen, thin form factor and a big middle button. Going by the pictures, we would expect no less than a 8-megapixel camera in this phone. The camera also looks like it’s equipped with dual-flash.

While the company is letting no word out about the handset, what we can do is just make educated guesses. We hope that it is embedded with an LTE chip along with a 720p display at the minimum.

The LG Optimus U1 seems to be the next-of-the-line handset in the LG Optimus range. Over the years, we have seen the likes of Optimus 2X, Optimus Black and Optimus 3D. But the Optimus U1, which competes in the market with phones like the Motorola Droid Razr, Galaxy Nexus and Samsung Galaxy Note, should take it to the next level for the company.

Trust us to update you as soon as we get a word about the handset.
