Nokia seems to have cancelled its Nokia 600 handset
Published on Nov 2, 2011
Nokia announced its Symbian Belle phones – the 700,701 and 600 with much fanfare this year. But, according to reports, bad news is pouring in for Nokia enthusiasts. Nokia seems to have taken out the Nokia 600 handset meaning the handset exists no more.
The handset kept on getting delayed until now, when we saw a GSMarena report stating that the handset had finally being cancelled. Nokia seems to have kept the news under wraps and even now, no word has poured in from the company except its Facebook update the Nokia FB page – “The thing is, after careful consideration, we have decided not to ship the Nokia 600”.
While this might seem a logical step since the company switched on to the Windows Phone OS, Nokia might have marred the hopes of many with this handset, as it was expected to be an affordable Belle OS smartphone. The Nokia 600 was announced in August this and was expected to hit the shelves in Q3 2011.
The major indication of the cancellation is that all Nokia 600 pages have vanished from Nokia’s developer’s site, its servers and blogs. Nokia has also removed the Nokia 600 videos from its YouTube channels. Altogether, Nokia has cancelled everything related to the handset.
Nokia has most probably cancelled the phone to concentrate on its just released Windows Phones – the Nokia Lumia 800 and the Nokia Lumia 710.
This is the first time Nokia has cancelled device just weeks before it was slated to hit the shelves.
The decision might seem a bit surprising at first, but it is in fact, quite obvious. The demise of the Nokia 600 is a warning to all Belle users that Nokia might be pulling the plug on the operating system and that too, soon!
