With the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update scheduled to finally hit the Optimus 2X next week, LG is finally talking about the next update in line, the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The company claimed that rumours citing that Optimus 2X is not in line for the ICS update ran on LG India’s Facebook page and were quite untrue.
On it’s global Facebook page LG made an official statement. It said, “LG firmly denies the rumours that claim LG will not be providing the ICS OS update for the LG Optimus 2X. These rumours are NOT true.
LG is currently in the process of planning the ICS OS update for the LG Optimus 2X as well as other LG high-end smartphones. Detailed information on the ICS OS update schedule for specific models will be announced once the ICS OS is publicly released by Google. Please stay tuned for more updates from LG.”
Users are hoping that the company will stick to its word and provide the ICS OS to them sooner rather than later. In the past LG has been slack in moving to software updates on its smartphones. Even now, Optimus 2X users are waiting for the Gingerbread update while the rest of the world is moving towards ICS.
The Ice Cream Sandwich update is most likely scheduled to roll out in the beginning of next year, gradually becoming available to most smartphone manufacturers. With the new and improved features that make up Android’s ICS, LG will be wise to push towards it as soon as possible. More than anything else, this will mend its reputation of lagging behind in the OS world.
